The headquarters of local developer, Ventana del Pacifico, since 1992, Ojochal has been the focus of much of the company's
production, comprising 11 communities nestled into the lower mountain slopes around the village.
Unlike other population centers along the coast, Ojochal’s growth took place away from the main highway. This
often-overlooked gem is home to some of the best restaurants in Costa Rica, 2 luxury hotels, and a vibrant expat community.
Ten kilometers south of Ojochal is the small mountain village of Chontales.
Historically a loosely defined community of Tico fruit farmers spread along the winding mountain roads, Chontales overlooks
the small port city of Cortes and a vast expanse of mangroves that stretch to the ocean.
Chontales boasts of exceptional mountain views and sweeping ocean vistas, with a climate that is more hospitable than life
at the beach. With its lofty mountainside perch comes a pleasant and refreshing breeziness, making for a cooler, less humid,
more tranquil environment. Given its remoteness, you can easily forget that you are mere minutes from Cortes, Ojochal, or
Palmar – a major population center at the crossroads to Panama.
